Using the same plot as Charles Dickens' original story, A Punk Xmas Carol explores the sensitive topics of harm reduction, drug use, and social courtesy among punks new and old. Packed with references to punk characters and music, this story is a modern take on the classic that comments on the social and philosophical purpose of punk rock today. Norma is a young punk rocker that lives with her young brother and single mother. Her best friend Simon uses drugs, and after a tense conversation on Christmas Eve, the two split ways. That night Norma is haunted by three phantoms that show her the past, present, and future of her family, friends, and the subculture she identifies with.

Punks Around is created, compiled and edited by Alexander Herbert, a PhD Candidate at Brandeis University focusing on environmentalism and youth culture in the late Soviet Union. He is the author of "What About Tomorrow? An Oral History of Russian Punk from the Soviet Era to Pussy Riot"

He is a devoted father, veteran vegan, self-ascribed environmentalist, occasional musician, opportunistic freelance writer and translator, and fan of beet and pickle pizza. Alexander has been a punk rock and hardcore enthusiast since the point of contact and has contributed to such iconic fanzines as Maximum Rocknroll and Razorcake.
